Discover how to paint on our beginner friendly course!
Embark on a creative journey with our "Beginners Painting" course set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Isle of Tiree. This one day studio based course will introduce you to painting with acrylics through a series of playful and creative exercises. With practical demonstrations, guidance and support from a professional artist you will learn the fundamentals of painting alongside fellow beginners in a friendly and supportive environment. We will draw inspiration from the incredible colours, sea views and dramatic skies that surround us on the island. You will benefit from individual feedback and receive guidance on working independently so you have the confidence to continue painting after the course. All art materials are provided and no prior painting experience is needed.
You will learn:
-The basic materials you need to start painting and how to use them
-A variety of painting techniques
-Foundation of colour theory
-Composition and layout
-Methods of generating ideas to help decide what to paint
-How to use a sketchbook as a painter
-How to discover your unique artistic voice
-Common painting challenges and solutions
Location:
Jen Bardell Art Studio, Unit 3, Ionad Iomairt Thiriodh, Crossapol, Isle of Tiree, PA77 6UP
Timings
The course starts at 10am and finishes at 5pm. Lunch is 1pm-2pm, you are free to continue working in the studio throughout lunch if you wish. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided throughout the day.
Please arrive at least ten mins before your course starts. We suggest wearing clothes you are happy to get paint on, aprons are provided.
Materials:
We will be working with acrylic paints and a variety of drawing media and surfaces. All materials are provided by us however please feel free to bring your own materials if you have a preference for certain items.
About Your Tutor:
Jen Bardell is an artist and has been practicing full time for sixteen years. She studied Fine Art at Bristol School of Art where she developed a strong foundation in both art theory and studio practice, focusing on painting and drawing. She works with the UK’s largest fine art publishing company and has exhibited her work in galleries throughout the UK and internationally.
Living on the beautiful Isle of Tiree, Jen loves helping others capture the island’s breathtaking sea and sky in their own paintings. Jen’s extensive knowledge of paint and art materials allows her to provide quality, hands-on guidance when teaching. Her workshops are relaxed and engaging, offering a supportive and collaborative space for each student to explore their creativity, develop their own style, and gain confidence in their artistic journey.
Level:
This course is suitable for complete beginners who have no previous experience of painting. Those with some painting experience looking to go back to basics and refresh their skills are also welcome.
Lunch:
We don’t provide lunch however you can bring a packed lunch with you. There is also a small convenience store (Bùth a' Bhaile) opposite the studio. We provide tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the day.
Level:
This course is suitable for all levels from complete beginners to professional artists looking to broaden their skills. We are a welcoming and friendly art studio…you will be fully supported however experienced you are.
Please note this workshop is for adults however children 14 and over are welcome to book a place if accompanied by a paying adult. This policy is due to the tutor not being DBS checked.
