MIXED MEDIA LANDSCAPES (HALF DAY)

Discover the limitless possibilities of mixed media!

Our mixed media landscapes painting course offers an enriching experience for artists working at all levels. The island's breathtaking natural beauty, pristine beaches and endless horizons serve as an inspirational backdrop for creative experimentation. Your tutor will guide and support you to explore diverse mixed media techniques by combining and layering materials such as acrylics, watercolors, pastels and drawing media. We will draw from our surroundings and explore ways to work with collage and treasures found on the island itself. You will benefit not only from skilled instruction but also from the opportunity to work in a small supportive group where open discussions and individual feedback will enrich your learning and creative development. Engaging with different media and art materials will foster a holistic and innovative approach to creating landscape art, enabling attendees to develop a personal and unique approach to their work.

What you will learn:

-Techniques in layering to create depth and texture

-Composition skills specific to landscape art

-Colour theory and how to evoke different moods and atmosphere through colour.

-How to create surface texture with impasto materials

-Mixed media methods and best practices

-Energetic and expressive mark making

-Unconventional approaches to interpreting the landscape

-How to develop a sketchbook to record and document experimentation

We will also look at and learn from the work of relevant artists working with a range of mixed media techniques. Mixed media is an exciting approach to creating art…you can push boundaries and open up to the possibilities of interesting and unexpected outcomes.

Timings

The course starts at 2pm and finishes at 5pm. Please arrive at least ten minutes before your course starts. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided upon arrival. We suggest wearing clothes you are happy to get paint on, aprons are provided.

Materials:

We will be working with acrylic paints and a variety of dry and wet media and surfaces. All materials are provided by us however please feel free to bring your own materials if you have a preference for certain items.

About Your Tutor:

Jen Bardell is an artist and has been practicing full time for sixteen years. She studied Fine Art at Bristol School of Art where she developed a strong foundation in both art theory and studio practice, focusing on painting and drawing. She works with the UK’s largest fine art publishing company and has exhibited her work in galleries throughout the UK and internationally.

Living on the beautiful Isle of Tiree, Jen loves helping others capture the island’s breathtaking sea and sky in their own paintings. Jen’s extensive knowledge of paint and art materials allows her to provide quality, hands-on guidance when teaching. Her workshops are relaxed and engaging, offering a supportive and collaborative space for each student to explore their creativity, develop their own style, and gain confidence in their artistic journey.

Level:

This course is suitable for all levels from complete beginners to professional artists looking to broaden their skills. We are a welcoming and friendly art school…you will be fully supported however experienced you are.
