painting weather & light on tiree

A five-day immersive landscape painting course for keen amateurs.

Spend five focused days painting on the Isle of Tiree, exploring its wide horizons, shifting weather and extraordinary Atlantic light. This small, supportive course is designed for keen amateur painters who want time, space and guidance to deepen their response to landscape.

Working both outdoors and in the studio, you’ll be encouraged to simplify what you see, develop confidence in your use of colour, and strengthen your own personal approach to painting. With a
maximum of 6–8 participants, the course offers plenty of individual attention in a relaxed, encouraging atmosphere.

This course is for
• Keen amateur painters with some experience
• Those who paint regularly and want to develop further
• Artists who enjoy working from landscape and observation

What you’ll explore
• Responding to light and weather
• Simplifying complex landscapes
• Colour inspired by place
• Moving from sketch to resolved painting
• Developing personal responses rather than copying

How the week works
Each day includes a short demonstration or guided discussion, followed by outdoor painting and
sketching, studio development, and supportive group reflection. One lighter afternoon mid-week
allows time to rest, reflect or work independently.

Location
Tiree’s beaches, open landscapes and ever-changing skies provide an inspiring setting for focused painting. Weather permitting, much of the work will take place outdoors, supported by studio sessions.
