Is being by the sea your happy place?

Visit beautiful Tiree and join us on our unique “Island Seascapes” painting course. A small island surrounded by miles of deserted white shell sand beaches, crystal clear turquoise water and incredible views of the Hebrides archipelago there is no better place to connect with the ocean and learn how to capture the essence of the sea and sky in paint. Just a few minutes walk from the magnificent Crossapol beach, our studio is perfectly positioned to go outside and work on the beach to create plenty of reference material to develop into paintings back in the studio. Throughout the course we will cover the fundamental elements needed to create seascape paintings including colour, composition, techniques and materials. You will benefit from group discussions, individual feedback and receive guidance on developing your seascape paintings independently so you can continue to explore the subject after the course.

What you will learn:

-Different painting techniques related to painting the sea and sky

-How to work expressively (and not get caught up in capturing too much detail)

-Colour mixing with suggestions of colours to use for painting seascapes

-How to create visual harmony through composition

-How to add interesting texture to different surfaces

-What kit to take when working outside

-Ways of using a sketchbook to develop ideas and sketches into finished paintings.

Our main medium will be acrylic paint however we will also work with a variety of drawing media and surfaces. We will also look at and learn from the work of key artists whose work is connected to seascapes such as Turner, Winslow Homer and Samuel John Peploe.
